With one year of eligibility remaining for FIU’s Fermin Silva, the Panthers’ 2016 and 2017 sack leader has decided to enter the transfer portal, as first reported by Cole Cubelic of the SEC Network.

The future graduate transfer missed the majority of last season due to an injury and managed to only play in three games.

Silva entered the year in hopes of being able to convert to a linebacker and defensive end crossbreed.

The former Miami Central standout finished the 2018 campaign with 11 total tackles and two sacks which both came against the rivaled Miami Hurricanes at Hard Rock Stadium.

Unless unseen changes occur, Silva will end his FIU career with 110 tackles, 23.5 tackles-for-loss and 14.5 sacks.

FIU is set to have four returning defensive ends with sophomore Noah Curtis leading the way with a unit-high 49 total tackles.

The Panthers’ 2019 recruiting class also has two three-star defensive ends signed in Ty Danzy and Nathan White.
