After being thrusted to the starting role and leading FIU to a 35-32 victory in the 2018 Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl, former Panthers quarterback Christian Alexander has transferred to Wagner College in Staten Island, N.Y.

The graduate transfer announced his decision to transfer on Dec. 28 through a posted Twitter message.

“After a lot of thought and prayers alongside my family, I have decided to transfer from FIU following the Bowl game and my graduation this December; In order to pursue other opportunities to play ball for my last year of eligibility,” Alexander said via a Twitter message.

Alexander stepped into the matchup against the Toledo Rockets as the replacement for injured Conference USA Newcomer of the Year James Morgan.

The six-foot-three, 225-pound signal caller completed 17 of his 26 passes for 209 yards and one touchdown. He also added 83 yards rushing on 11 attempts.

“I kind of knew going into preparation for the bowl game. I kind of knew what James’ injury was,” said Alexander on knowing when he was going to start in the bowl game. “Obviously, I knew I had to carry the reins.”

Coming into last season, Alexander competed with Morgan for the starting job after former quarterback Alex McGough graduated.

Morgan inevitably secured the first string role but didn’t do so until his breakout game against Old Dominion in the second game of the season.

FIU will return three quarterbacks from the previous year in redshirt freshman Kaylan Wiggins and freshmen Tannor Watson and Caleb Lynum.

2019 signee Stone Norton is also set to join the Panthers.
